Russian Online Learning Market Poised for 53 bln Roubles by 2021
According to recent forecasts, the global EdTech market, which is currently equal to $165 billion, will grow by more than 5% annually. One of the fastest growing regional markets for online education was Eastern Europe, with Russia being the leader. Experts predict that average annual growth for the Russian online learning market will be 20% over the next five years.

International Students Get Acquainted with Moscow and HSE
Orientation sessions for new international students were held during the last two weeks of August at HSE Moscow. More than 200 exchange students from 80 countries will be spending the autumn semester taking courses in various HSE faculties. During the orientation, they learned about academic matters, administrative and safety issues, took a tour of HSE library, and attended roundtable discussions on life in Moscow and culture shock.
HSE Continues to Rise in THE World University Rankings
In the latest Times Higher Education university rankings, the Higher School of Economics rose to the 351-400 category among 1,102 schools worldwide. This is an improvement on last year, when HSE was in the 401-500 group, with the university ranking fourth among the 27 Russian universities that made it to the ranking.
Sean Winkler – Looking Forward to New Perspectives on Philosophy
On September 1, 2017, Sean Winkler joined the School of Philosophy as a research fellow for one year. Originally from Chino Hills, California, he holds an undergraduate and Master’s degree in philosophy from Loyola Marymount University (Los Angeles, California), as well as a Master’s degree and PhD from KU Leuven (Leuven, Belgium).
Researchers Learn More about Maximizing Brain Use
Neuroscientists from Higher School of Economics and Charité University Clinic in Berlin have come up with a new multivariate method for predicting behavioural response to a stimulus using information about the phase of preceding neuronal oscillations recorded with EEG. The method may eventually find practical application in fields such as competitive sports, education and patient treatment. The study's findings are published in the paper ‘On optimal spatial filtering for the detection of phase coupling in multivariate neural recordings’.

Rudolf Laiko and Sophia Tolstoukhova have applied deep learning methods to solving immunological issues that could contribute to the further development of personalized medicine. HSE Offers Psychometric Analysis of Online Courses
The HSE Centre for Psychometrics in eLearning is currently developing techniques, tools, and automated services for psychometric analysis of online courses as part of the project ‘Modern Digital Educational Environment in the Russian Federation’. Evgeny is confident that social entrepreneurship in Russia is only starting to develop, and that it will get easier in time.
