HSE Celebrates Anniversary Night

On November 27, HSE celebrated its 25th birthday with Anniversary Night (because an average birthday party would have been rather dull). The celebration featured an entire array of different activities, and HSE students themselves came up with the evening’s programme. Anniversary Night began with the finale of the Research Battles, and from 8:00 p.m. onward, the grand ‘Night’ festival by Ingroup CTC continued. On November 27, the HSE Academic Council held an awards ceremony dedicated to the university’s 25th anniversary. The meeting saw the participation of representatives of the Russian President, members of government, and members of the Russian Federal Assembly. Governmental awards were given to a number of HSE employees for their tremendous accomplishments.

Winners of the First International Competition ‘Cities for a Flying World’ Announced

HSE Graduate School of Urbanism has announced the results of the first international contest for students and young professionals ‘Cities For a Flying World’. The contest took place from May 29 to  November 7, 2017 and was a part of the admission campaign for the new Master’s programme of the HSE Graduate School of Urbanism ‘Prototyping Future Cities’.

HSE students from the Faculty of Computer Science and the Institute of Education have taken part in the ‘Put Together Your 2035 University’ hackaton. The theme of the hackaton was concerned with developing and designing AI solutions (with the use of machine learning) in education. HSE students took third place and made it through to the finals!

Two HSE Programmes Make QS Best Business Masters Ranking

The programmes in Big Data Systems and International Business have entered the QS Business Masters Ranking in Business Analytics and Management. Published for the first time, the ranking is based on an analysis of over 300 universities from more than 40 countries.

HSE Enters THE Subject Rankings in Physical Sciences for First Time

For the first time ever, the Higher School of Economics has entered the Times Higher Education ranking in the physical sciences, placing in the 401-500 group. The results of the ranking were announced at a Project 5-100 conference seminar by Phil Baty, chief editor of the THE World University Rankings.

HSE and University of London: Joint BA Programme in Applied Data Analysis

In 2018, the Higher School of Economics will launch an English-taught double degree programme in partnership with the University of London in Applied Data Analysis. Graduates will be awarded an undergraduate degree from HSE in Applied Mathematics and Information Science and a Bachelor of Science in Data Science and Business Analytics from the University of London. International applicants are invited to apply online starting November 15, 2017.

Conscious decision-making and internalized intentions, as opposed to extrinsic influencing factors, are the key to a student’s successful adaption to life in a foreign country. This was confirmed by research carried out by a group of scientists which included Ken Sheldon, Academic Supervisor and Head of the International Laboratory of Positive Psychology of Personality and Motivation at the Higher School of Economics.
