HSE Scholars Elected to Russian Academy of Sciences

On May 30, 2025, a general meeting of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) announced the results of the elections for its full and corresponding members. Around 1,800 individuals took part in the voting. Among those elected this year are scholars from HSE University.

Alexander Tonevitsky, Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology, has been elected a member of the RAS in the field of Medical Bioengineering and Instrumentation. He is a professor at the Joint Department with RAS Shemyakin–Ovchinnikov Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry (HSE Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology), Chief Research Fellow at HSE’s Laboratory for Research on Molecular Mechanisms of Longevity, Honoured Scientist of Russia, and a recipient of the Order of Friendship of Peoples.

Vladimir Pudalov has been elected a member of the RAS in the field of Physics and Astronomy. He is a professor at the School of Electronic Engineering at MIEM (HSE Tikhonov Moscow Institute of Electronics and Mathematics), Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, and recipient of the Medal of the Order ‘For Merit to the Fatherland,’ second class.

Alexander Smirnov has also been elected a member of the RAS in the field of Physics and Astronomy. Prof. Smirnov heads the Joint Department of Low Temperature Physics with the Kapitza Institute for Physical Problems (RAS) and is Chief Research Fellow at the HSE Laboratory of Condensed Matter Physics. He is also a recipient of the Medal of the Order ‘For Merit to the Fatherland,’ second class.

The below-mentioned HSE scholars have been elected corresponding members of the Russian Academy of Sciences.

Alexander Pavlov, Head of the HSE School of Philosophy and Cultural Studies, has been elected in the field of Philosophy. He holds a Doctorate in Philosophy and is a professor at the HSE Faculty of Humanities.

Igor Kolokolov, Head of the Joint Department for Theoretical Physics with the Landau Institute for Theoretical Physics (RAS), was elected in the field of Physics.

Konstantin Petrosyants has been elected a corresponding member in the field of Computational, Locational, Telecommunication Systems and Component Base. Dr Petrosyants is a leading research fellow at the School of Electronic Engineering at MIEM, Doctor of Technical Sciences, professor, award winner of the Russian Government Prizes in Education, Science and Technology, and an Honoured Worker of Higher Professional Education of Russia.

Andrey Belevantsev, Professor at the Joint Department with the RAS Institute for System Programming, HSE Faculty of Computer Science (FCS), has been elected in the field of Applied Mathematics and Informatics, including Cybersecurity.

Aleksandr Gasnikov, Leading Research Fellow at the International Laboratory of Stochastic Algorithms and High-Dimensional Inference (FCS), has been elected in the field of Applied Mathematics and Informatics. He is an Associate Professor and Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

Maxim Korolev, Head of the Basic Department of the Steklov Mathematical Institute of the RAS, has been elected in the field of Mathematics. He is a professor at HSE's Faculty of Computer Science and holds a Doctorate in Physical and Mathematical Sciences.

Maxim Bermeshev, Professor at the Joint Department of Petrochemistry and Polymers with the A.V.Topchiev Institute of Petrochemical Synthesis (RAS), has been elected in the field of Organic Chemistry. He is an Associate Professor and Doctor of Chemical Sciences.

Election Results in Numbers

 84 individuals have been elected RAS members

 165 scholars have become corresponding members

 270 RAS professors have participated in the elections

 39 foreign RAS members from 20 countries have been elected
