HSE Students Named Best Actors at Naples Theatre Festival
The play La Folie Positive, performed by the HSE Le Defi student theatre, took top honors at the Francophone festival Rideau Rouge, which took place in Naples, Italy.
The theatre project Le Defi was founded in March 2011 by a group of students from the HSE Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs. Initially, the students planned to limit themselves to staging the play The Marriage of Figaro in French, but then the troupe started taking part in university holiday programmes and staging other plays in Russian and French.
The theatre’s goal is to find and reveal new talents and creative personalities, and to popularize foreign languages in a creative way. The theatre cooperates with the Department of French Language, the HSE Cultural Center, and the Faculty of World Economy and International Affairs.
Each autumn the theatre opens its doors to anyone who wants to join the troupe. There are no long auditions, exhausting training sessions or strict judging. Candidates are just asked to demonstrate their desire to participate, and to be ready to act out anything on the stage without worrying about their appearance or public opinion.
